#Quantitative Science Studies / Social #Stratification in Science / Global #Academic #Profession / Full Professor / University of Poznan/ #UNESCO Chairholder / proud #Academia #Europaea member (MAE) / fundamentally open-minded, happy, sometimes lucky
Thank you #UNESCO for an invitation to act as one of 4 independent scientists in the Advisory Board!

It is an excellent opportunity to see how global organizations work in practice! My reading - they work very well, small teams, huge impact!

Two days with #UNESCO in #Advisory Board of GEM - Global Education Monitoring.

Extremely interesting work with and for a UN agency.

Let us not #underestimate (and #underfund) global organizations, they still have enough power to prepare solid - and consequential - global reports!

This is what I wrote: "A perfect intro to a globally underexamined field. Written by the world's most respected scholar in private h ed, this book shows the power of a theoretically sophisticated approach to the changing dynamics of privateness & publicness in h ed."

Never thought we could be that succesful!

Three years from idea to publication.

#Books.

We #love 'em.

We are still #writing 'em.

Expect a new book on "The #Global Academic Profession".

Quantitive study of hundreds of #thousands of scientists & scholars.

Rigorous #methodologies.

Cohort-based, #longitudinal, micro-level datasets, individuals

Soon.

#Personally, I would never publish anything in #Frontiers, #MDPI et consortes. Never ever!

Publishing in #predatory journals destroys #individual academic #careers and spoils the images of whole #insitutions.

Not a waste of #money; a waste of academic #recognition. Think twice bft sending your ms
May 21, 2025 at 6:18 AM
Kind of #TikTok #challenge for Social scientis #globally: how many #Sara' (the founder and owner) phenomenal #methodological books in the #Sage series do you have at home?

I have 37 of them, all bought over the past two #decades.

And you? Can you take the #picture, for her, for us!
May 21, 2025 at 6:13 AM
So happy to back (5th time!) at John Ioannidis' seminar series @METRICS at @Stanford!

This time about immobility and persistence in academic productivity classes.

Chances to jump up? Zero. Yes, zero!

Thinking whether #reviewing dozens (45 in 2023) of manuscripts for #top journals in my field makes sense ?

However, finally, one review per week seems a must. If we do not do it, who will?

Peer review is just work for the #global academic #community. Please try not to say no!

And finally - the #punitive power of Twitter and Bluesky today.

We #furious scholars, myself and others, actually #socially #punish #Minerva journal for its #disrespect #unfairness.

We just tell our #withdrawal story.

And what can #Minerva do now? Actually, just rethink its #academic business
May 4, 2025 at 5:21 AM
Fascinating how my #Minerva journal #withdrawal story (my and @lukasz-szymula.bsky.social rejection to wait for more than 7 months for a first, any #review) - led to an avalanche of letters to me!

#STS guys tend to wait. For me, it is #monopolistic #unfair #short-sighted (for the #Minerva).

Your kind offer is most welcome!

Next time I will try your @rorinstitute.bsky.social "MetaResearch Open Review".

Excited and ... worried about great research with my stellar @lukasz-szymula.bsky.social sunk. But the platform looks so innivative that I will take a risk..
May 4, 2025 at 4:28 AM
Glad to be back!

We track “late-career” scientists - scientists with at least 25 years of publishing experience - in 16 STEMM and social science disciplines from 38 OECD countries for up to five decades.

A comprehensive, longitudinal data source for research on careers in science.

Anniversary meeting, a full year of our work in the Ministerial Advisory Unit, Ministry of Science - Promoting Polish Research Internationally. Each time great vibes, fantastic colleagues, good results.

Unbelievable.

PubMed. After 29 years, dead.

PubMed is a openly-accessible free database which includes primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics.

Yes. It was. Not any more.

Thank you #Harvard and Richard Freeman from Economics for my seminar in "Economics of Science & Engineering" series! Thank you the audience for discussions!

I presented "#Attrition in #Science" from global and longitudinal perspectives.

It is AMAZING to listen to our paper on #"Attrition Science" discussed by AI #Deep Dive) - 11 minutes, a great, lively conversation, hitting the mark!

Somehow incredible. I would not do it better.

Fascinating how #LLMs soothingly summarize our, #human work.
