the research dissertations, and documentaries i've looked at while workin on my own supports how important his characters and work are to people. my mind is kinda blown because it's something you feel when you talk to or observe people but to see it bear out in the data too....

fun stuff. :)

Coogler's work is full of black 'heroes' who barely win, lose, lose more than they win, and/or die trying....and yet he is already one of the most revered/returned-to storytellers on the contemporary scene.

Yesterday was the snowiest November day in #Chicago history. 8.4” fell at O’Hare Airport (Chicago's official measurement site) breaking the previous record of 8” set in 1951. Here are a few more photos.

i've had to give feedback like that this semester and its always a risk how the person will respond. most students receive it well enough but there's always that one...they usually come for you in the end of semester teacher evaluation tho...but in the current climate....yikes

students should consider themselves lucky when they get an instructor like that, one who is willing to explain without disrespecting their personal beliefs, because a lot of instructors will just politely tell you to eat that zero.

not a translation or author indicator in sight. these aren't really crucial details in a lot of church-going/sacred activities so it makes sense that students struggle when having to address them in a different context.

the gendered episodes in the old testament alone would make any game of thrones writer blush and vomit. there was sooo much to work from if *thats* what you wanted to do......

you do not get to reap the storied benefits of journalism, education, information, literacy - the main one being an informed, creative, autonomous, democratic citizenry - while ALSO embracing the hyperbolic, click-bait ass, "everything is (my) content," "its okay when MY fave politician lies" hustle

but also in activist/political discourse...and it's why i'm staying on my "it's not a mass literacy/critical thinking/covid brain crisis - it's the 'find out' phase of a culture that embraced misinformation/lying" hill.

I struggled to articulate my problems with the cultural impacts of "hot takes" discourse (esp in podcasting/radio journalism) and the popular hyperbolic headlining in reporting and engagement-focused 'social media speak' (not just shitposting).
