Yeah, Portuguese is a pesky little language, for sure. Self-teaching must be a nightmare.
I would also recommend trying to look for Queer spaces, if that's relevant to you!
I'm fortunate to be close to the capital, so ILGA is a great spot, I'm not sure if there's any like that close to you :(.

I'm not sure if this would be helpful info but some public libraries have books on Portuguese, and I've heard some even have occasional classes that you can sign up (hopefully freely and very cheaply)

Portuguese is my native language and I cannot even begin to put myself in your shoes. Even for native speakers some of the rules are so so difficult to grasp, not even close to english.
