I think one of the most underrated aspects of physical media is that a friend can hand you a CD, a video game, or a movie, and it could just completely change the course of your life. Sometimes you’d say “you like this?!” and other times, it completely opened your brain to something new.

DVDs really made a lot of movies and shows feel less disposable. Cancelled shows would get a second life because whole new audiences would discover them. You’d lend them to friends, and you’d talk about them at work or class. Just a really cool era and it’s mostly over now.

Everyone had specific DVDs they’d put on after a night of drinking. You’d wake up in the morning or middle of the night and see that same Home Screen playing and replaying. That kind of thing could really add to the way we enjoyed certain movies.
