Is their intellectual groundwork more thorough than anything within the party's left though? Genuine question. I'm leaning no, which makes me think it's less Blue Labour filled a vacuum, and more the centrists in charge preferred to give them control of the steering wheel

Reminds me of how @chrisdillow.bsky.social mentioned on his blog several times over the years that Boris Johnson was implicated in arranging to get a journalist beaten up, and despite the hacks saying multiple times over the years they read Chris's blog, there was strangely very little on that one
