Another interesting post shared by RS….all I ever read was that young men were weakened by WW1 but this explains much more.
"A significant biological explanation for high mortality among young adults in 1918 involves a “cytokine storm.” This occurs when the body’s immune system, in its effort to combat a pathogen, mounts an excessively strong and uncontrolled inflammatory response."
What Caused the 1918 Flu to Affect Young Adults Most?
Explore the puzzling reasons why the 1918 flu disproportionately affected healthy young adults, delving into both biological and circumstantial factors.

Reform UK, which has a grand total of four MPs, was just given an uninterrupted platform for an hour and a half on the BBC and Sky News channels, in order to talk about its plans for mass deportations

When was the last time the Greens (with four MPs) or the Lib Dems (with 72) were given the same?

1. This is something I've been saying for 25 years, but it's hard to get many people to listen. What counts is not the new energy sources you add, but the old ones you retire. Unfortunately it's politically easier to build renewables than to shutter fossil fuels.🧵

The Renewable Illusion: Why Fossil Fuels Keep Winning
Global renewables hit records in 2024, but fossil fuel use still rises. Here’s why solar’s surge isn’t enough—and what the latest energy data really shows.

THIS IS VERY EXCITING! HUGE THANKS TO THE LAW STUDENTS OF VANUATU, JULIAN AGUON, BLUE OCEAN LAW, AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO WORKED ON IT.
Huge news from the International Court of Justice in the Hague – the start of a new era of climate accountability

The court confirms that states are obliged to act on the climate crisis, and that the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is fundamental for all other human rights
