They have a 'clean slate' scheme where minor offences get 'hidden' from background checks, but it doesn't expunge the offence.

No disagreement there. But while awareness is good, highlighting the cause of the issues that lead it to arise is also important.

As an aside, it's worth remembering that the 'left' and 'right' are not a dichotomy. People are subject to a number of biases due to upbringing as well as numerous social factors including socio-economic and education status. The far left can be just as nutty as the right...

The negativity bias only comes in for the so-called centrists, who don't know better and have not educated themselves or been educated on the issues. These are the people who think that there are two sides, when in reality the science is clear: trans folk exist as part of trans of human variation.

I think that there are 2 aspects at play here. The RWNJs who come up with the conspiracy theories (and they definitely are - I've been calling them out as such since 2018). And the propagation of the conspiracy theories, initially by RW, then carried by mainstream trying to appear 'balanced'. 1/2

My condolences. My mother died a couple of years ago and I help provide end of life care for her (as I did for my step-father 15 years ago). It's never easy, but it helps to know that they are always with us in our hearts and are now free from pain.

I would have said that the right wing tend to do this because it's easier to blame something external than to accept that it's internal. Negativity bias may enter into it, but it's more that they don't want to accept something that challenges their beliefs.

I would encourage all people interested in the rights of transgender people to read this book. It succinctly covers the legal and social challenges that trans folk face, as well as providing a history of trans folk in society. It's an ideal primer.
