A picture of the Locus Award, which is a piece of lucite which is like an elongated oval, with the bottom chopped off and flattened, set into a base (which is, I swear to god, the same shape as an iron). This one has been etched with a moon, stars, a retro-looking rocket, and the words "LOCUS AWARD 2021." It's quite handsome.

It was a lovely day in St. Paul.

Author's name is in black, and the title is in red, which will echo the interior of the book. But then...I honestly don't know how to describe the picture. There's a naked woman, kneeling, with a bird on her head, a hand covering one breast, and tentacles coming up to her waist from between her legs. She is backdropped by red and brown squishy horrors. It's much worse than I am describing.

It is the appetizer! The meal is...enormous.

I ordered maduro con queso at La Fritanga in Richland Center, WI. I had no idea what it would be. Why I expected anything different now escapes me.
Fried sweet plantain (pleasantly brown) with a slab of well toasted cheese on top, held together with a toothpick. The cheese is easily a half-inch thick. There are 5 pieces in the picture, in a white styrofoam take-out box.

For the record, even though I swatched, the thing is _huge_. 9 feet deep and a wing-span of 12 feet. Here's a picture of me wearing it at Minnehaha Falls. (I had intended to throw the shawl a party when I finished it, but COVID made that impossible, so I did a photo shoot instead.)
In the foreground a white woman with her hair up wearing a navy blue dress and the most extravagant amount of white lace imaginable. It literally brushes the ground, and falls in folds from her shoulders. In the background you can see a bit of Minnehaha Falls, with some fall foliage. The shot is at the base of of the falls, which are not very full at the time.
