Recommended: I just read a brilliant piece in The Atlantic (via @kottke.org).

The whole time I was reading it I was thinking that this reads like it could be in McSweeney's. And sure enough, the author, Alexandra Petri, has written for @mcsweeneys.net as well.

@jonmackenzie.bsky.social apparently you are dropping amazing takes on Pep's OOP strategy on X ... and I have made my exit from that site. And held steadfastly to that. But, ugh, this is a very compelling reason for me to rejoin that site.

A lot of my ambivalence about technology comes down to oscillating between two poles:

1. I want to live in the Federation world from Star Trek
2. We actually live in the Weyland-Yutani world from Alien

I made up a new word.

manicxiety (noun): The overwhelming combination of manic energy and intense anxiety experienced when scrolling the latest news.

Things that are inevitable and make me miserable: the heat death of the universe and Arsenal not having the squad depth to complete a season.

Sorry not sorry — this is basically a @ddmeyer.bsky.social fan account now.

I really appreciated this: education companies have "One Weird Trick" — it's super easy to get amazing results when you selectively pick out which students get to use your product.

My lukewarm take for the day: it's not very smart to dismantle the Department of Education.

Can't believe that needs to be said, but here we are.

Well, this is interesting: people are getting their legs broken by eBikes. www.londoncentric.media/p/lime-bikes...

I find it interesting because, for the organization I'm working with on some GenAI resources, electric bikes are their chosen analogy for how to use GenAI. 😬

Gave learning.google.com/ a spin and asked it about my beloved Arsenal. And it was ... rough! It got some basic facts wrong, telling me that Aaron Ramsdale (not currently at the club) was a star player, and Renee Slegers (coaches the women's team) has been relying heavily on Bukayo Saka.
