Putin only negotiates when he needs time to regroup or gain an advantage. Until talks are mediated, secure and based on terms that protects Ukraine’s sovereignty - not a photo op for Putin. Until those conditions exist, a direct meeting won’t bring peace. It would only benefit Putin

Strategically, the power dynamics are wrong. Russia is still occupying Ukraine territory and Putin would use those optics to legitimize that reality and claim Ukraine was negotiating from a position of weakness. Putin doesn’t negotiate in good faith.
