Because you couldn't find the right stock image, or couldn't find it in your budget.

By the same logic: Why have pencils when pens exist?
It's okay to have two tools that solve the same problem in different ways.

No, I replied to the OP, who I follow and respect, to have a cordial conversation and voice a disagreement with her statement.

Then hundreds of people like you arrived and started arguments with me and kept them going for hours.

If you look at the context of the conversation instead of just assuming the worst, you might discover that the "pig" in this metaphor represents a project, not a person.
November 29, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Lol, yeah, when you weigh entire industries against single individuals, you tend to get pretty fucking lopsided.

Probably still less than is guzzled by all the golf courses.

The few of my claims that are factual in nature are backed up by sources that I can, and have, cited.

If you want to argue the veracity of my sources without even reading them or providing any sources for a counter-argument whatsoever, then you're just trolling and wasting my time.
November 29, 2025 at 12:29 AM
I backed up my claims.

If you're going to request citations from people and then immediately ignore those citations because of bullshit reasons so you don't have to consider the possibility that you're wrong, don't expect anyone to take you seriously.

I, for one, am muting you.
November 29, 2025 at 12:19 AM
I'm sorry, but I don't keep a detailed diary of every article I read months or years ago.
November 29, 2025 at 12:17 AM
Sorry I don't have a rolodex of links prepared for every ancillary argument every internet rando throws at me on social media. God forbid I have to look up a source I want to cite instead of remembering the exact URL from memory.
If you can google, then why are you asking me? Fucking do it yourself.
November 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Ah, so paid child labor instead. My mistake.
November 29, 2025 at 12:06 AM
I did, to you. If you want me to cite articles about the lawsuits they're losing, I'd be happy to.

But Kathryn is a professional in the legal industry and I'm not stupid enough to argue with her about the law because she knows much more about it than I do.
November 29, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Ah, so "stolen artwork" from AI is bad, but unpaid labor from minors is good. Got it.
November 28, 2025 at 11:59 PM
You might be surprised, but I totally agree.
November 28, 2025 at 11:57 PM
The only lawsuits I know of them actively losing are copyright related, I think? But as someone who works in the legal profession, you'd definitely know that better than me.
November 28, 2025 at 11:56 PM
I'm not saying they did. I'm saying those are examples of "laws about making computer systems safe for users".
November 28, 2025 at 11:56 PM
How much of the Colorado River do you think is "guzzled" by making an image for a flyer? Or, hell, let's go further. How much do you think would be "guzzled" by AI making the entire flyer by itself, images and all?
November 28, 2025 at 11:43 PM
IANAL, but:

CIPA and COPPA exist to protect kids.
Copyright/patent law exists to protect creators.
Section 230 exists to protect all of us from liability for others' words.
CFAA protects us from fraud.

Etc.
November 28, 2025 at 11:42 PM
Sorry I'm capable of believing that two useful things can coexist at the same time. 🙄
November 28, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Correct... The exact same as stick figures.

There are absolutely people who will ignore AI art who would balk at stick figures, just like there are people who believe the reverse.

It's all subjective.
November 28, 2025 at 11:33 PM
So there absolutely are laws about making computer systems safe for users, and AI companies are absolutely bound to follow them and some are already paying out settlements for violating these laws.

The laws are currently insufficient, but that's always the case briefly when new tech arrives.
