Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

Oh my god, this is a nightmare. I do not, under any circumstances, want to give props to Tucker Carlson for using anti-gay slurs... but if he's legitimately doing so to protest government overreach that punished protected speech... I might just have to. This is a truly awful combination of things.
1. Tucker Carlson, in a manner bordering on sensuous euphoria, said the word Fa**ot twenty times in his interview with Piers Morgan.

Tucker was saying it as some sort of protest to a woman who was allegedly arrested and charged for using it in response to her domestic abuser.

Turns out you can actually post your way through getting dogpiled by a popular account on this site.

I would not recommend the experience, though.

If they ever get around to building this thing, it should be bulldozed on Day 1 of a new administration. No messing around, no hemming and hawing about procedure or costs. Order heavy equipment in and start knocking it down immediately, as surely as an overthrown tyrant's statues would be torn down.

I take issue with folks who view those who have committed suicide as exclusively victims, particularly in the use of the term "victim-blaming".

If they had taken someone else's life, we would condemn them, regardless of mental health issues.

But since they took their own, we ignore...

The most un-intuitive, but crucial, lesson any programmer has to learn is this:

It's 10x easier to write code than it is to read code.

This maxim remains true even in the era of vibe coding. But when an AI writes your code for you, reading it becomes *even harder* because now it's alien.

As a gay man who grew up in the midwest, it's disturbing how succinctly the developmental trauma that haunts me to this day can be summed up.

I still have no idea what kind of man I would have been had masculinity not been beaten into me.
The training/socialization of men starts instantly and goes hard. Everything you might like is too gay, too feminine. You are required to hate yourself for being insufficiently masculine, to blame others for that feeling, and to hate everyone who doesn't "respect" your manliness.

Oh boy. To try to get out of a criminal contempt investigation, the government is arguing that the judge's verbal order doesn't count because she later wrote it down a bit differently.

I'm sure that argument will go over well.
"Although the substance of the legal advice given to DHS and Secretary Noem is privileged, the Government has repeatedly explained in its briefs—both in this Court and on appeal—why its actions did not violate the Court’s order, much less constitute contempt."

How is it that my car won't let me forget that a passenger isn't wearing their seatbelt, but dump trucks fairly regularly get driven around in the up position and smash into stuff?

Unclear if this is the FBI trying to persecute them for their video, or the FBI following up on the complaint of death threats that those members submitted to the Capitol Police.
MS NOW confirms: The FBI is working with Capitol Police to schedule interviews with the six Democratic lawmakers who urged service members to refuse to comply with illegal orders.

Worth remembering: British law does *not* protect free speech anywhere near the extent that US law does.

BBC's lawyers may very well be right under British law, whereas under US law, we can call him corrupt AF with no legal recourse.
NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

The thing is, we can disagree about all kinds of policies, and still fundamentally agree on some basic principles of government. I think many of us have rediscovered that, which is one good thing that comes out of all this.
What's wild is that I'm not only just as solidly progressive and left leaning as ever, I'm in fact more left leaning and progressive as I've ever been *at the same time as* I haven't disagreed with anything that David Frum and Tom Nichols have said or written in the last decade. Thanks, Atlantic.
