Trump embraced Zohran Mamdani even after Mamdani called him a fascist. Why? Because Mamdani understands Trump only respects strength—and strength means taking away the voters who fuel his power. @saletan.bsky.social breaks down the strategy.
What Mamdani Gets About Trump
When New York’s mayor-elect met with the authoritarian president, he didn’t waste time with denunciations. But he didn’t exactly hold back.

It’s clear that the primary interest of the US in “peace negotiations” is to create opportunities for Trump, Witkoff, their family members, business partners and cronies to make billions from business deals with Russia, and Ukraine is just the annoying nuisance in the way.

About 40% of SNAP recipients are children. Around half of ALL children in the country are covered by Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

And the so-called “party of family values” gutted both programs by billions of dollars.

Doesn’t sound very pro-family to me.
