Cold and salt in the air, soaking into my lungs. In those dreams, there is laughter. The raucous, carefree resonance of a soul unbound. A call echoed, multiplied, growing. There is joy and mirth and love, carefully folded and stored in a glass cabinet. In those dreams, there is dread. The gnawing, undeniable thing rooted in the belly. Is there enough time? Have I given up too much? Will I ever be enough? Tendrils spread and all I can do is pull them free. I’ve been dreaming, but never while I sleep.
