Doug Ford finally destroys one of the world’s best recovery and refill systems. Beer store commits to having a location within 10 km of the population- that’s the distance from the CN Tower to Yorkdale. Everything this man touches turns to shit.

US politicians wonder why Canadians aren't visiting as much, given how welcoming they are! "Grand Canyon Nat'l Park the cost of driving in a private vehicle is $35. Non-U. S. visitors now would have to pay an extra $100 per person on top of that, making admission for a family of four $435”

Why am I not surprised. “Senate Republicans in January plan to criticize requirements for safety technology, arguing they are ineffective and will unnecessarily drive up the cost of cars, according to people familiar with the situation.” Pedestrian lives, on the other hand, are cheap

Funny because in Toronto, the trees get legal protection but you can knock down every 100 year old building. They both deserve to be saved.

Two pages apart in the @thestar.com : 9 year old killed by driver of SUV jumping curb, and Ontario bans speed cameras. Yes they are related, because Doug Ford inculcates a culture that the world is made for drivers, but kids and cyclists? Too bad.

Flying Officer Lloyd George Speyer; I am named after him. Also, his grave in a Commonwealth cemetery near Berlin. His memory is still a blessing.

Nobody in this country is serious about climate change. Billions to double Pearson capacity in 20 years? How about trains instead and limiting flying to over oceans

I was happy to see "Abundance" properly categorized as "airport exclusive fiction" in Edinburgh Airport

They are tearing down concrete apartment buildings not houses

Brilliant representation by Giaimo of the embodied carbon wasted in the demolition of perfectly good buildings in Toronto to build bigger buildings. A thousand houses worth of carbon. @azuremagazine.bsky.social #human/nature

it is insidious and everywhere. type "regenerative design" into google images and all you get are concrete buildings covered in trees, 3/4 of which are Bosco Verticale.

10 years ago the team hero flipped the bat then rode home on a scooter. That’s Toronto

I am reading a history of home heating, and I learn that Americans have had their eyes on Canadian resources, even since before there were a USA or Canada.

Doug Ford is banning speed cameras. He should read @douggordon.bsky.social "Life After Cars"

Are we going to have to redesign our cities around these ridiculous trucks ( at a climate conference Thunder Bay)
October 18, 2025 at 5:03 PM
I have never seen this before: the shadow of the Dash-8 to Thunder Bay on the clouds below with a rainbow ring around it.

I will be criticized for flying but I must say, there is something special about being there, meeting people, seeing cities and hanging out. I will be flying less and will miss this.

Coincidentally, my daughter just returned from taking her children apple picking, an annual tradition. She brought me a jug of the sweetest freshest cider, made 43 km from home. OJ can’t touch it.

Shot from 4 seats away from the big windows in a 787, it is good to be home! Lots to write about the @passivhaustrust.bsky.social conference in Belfast for @phplus.bsky.social

It also has the world’s coolest (hottest?) radiators

Mine too. I came back to say Hello, Dolly

We used to have a science museum in Toronto in a spectacular building albeit not quite up to Edinburgh. Doug Ford starved and then killed it. For me, this is his most unforgivable crime.

It was!

Toronto could learn something from police cars in Durham, UK. Many are small and economical instead of big SUVs. Toronto police tell pedestrians to dress up like Durham police dress up their cars- bright and easy to see. Oh, and the yellow stripe? It designates a parking area labelled ”police.”

I have been trying to move away from Microsoft and Google, but kept using PowerPoint because Designer was really good at resizing images. Now "Designer is now part of Copilot" and it is completely useless. Goodbye Microsoft!
