I have no inherent trouble with genital preference but I do have a problem with people who use genital presence as an excuse to dehumanize people or reduce them to their genitals.

Whether it should have been a 5 or a 0 is irrelevant, the fact of the matter is this is obviously an attempt to justify the expulsion of trans people and trans-friendly people from the academic world by threatening controversy. Nitpicking like this only gives legitimacy to the bad faith claims.

I see the argument you’re making, but you’re giving validation to what is an obviously bad faith attack on queer people in academia. I’m not particularly interested in debating with you, but I hope you understand why so many people (especially trans people who see what’s going on here) are upset.

It absolutely would. The author would be at risk of being arrested but at no point would the book be prevented from being sold. The only exception would be if the content of the book justified it, such as copyright infringement or divulging state secrets.

I think you might be overestimating how much people care about women being sexual harassed.
Like I’m not saying that’s not NOT a factor but basically any sexual harassment gets some sort of excuse. “She’s a man actually!” Is just the one that gets applied to us.

This movement was always going to run into a painted wall somewhere, Wile E Coyote style. I wish it’d happened by them getting laughed out of the room when all they have is vibes and an unworkable plan. But, you know, that would involve listening to trans people. And on being trans, no less.

Almost like all those arguments annoying trans people online made about how impossible this would be to enforce were based on actual lived experience of how trans people navigate their lives. You know, unlike a vibes-based moral panic about unpalatable queerness. But I guess we’re just too biased.

As always you can call and protest this stuff if you'd like. Getting a wide base of callers will have a higher impact than a small group of callers that call over and over.
You can also push back on false narratives, like that this is about fraud or chargebacks. Or educate critters close to you.

Except in cases of wartime and quarantine, open borders for migration is the only sensible geopolitical policy. Anything else is nationalist and, frankly, somewhat eugenicist. “We need to have as many of OUR people in our country as possible”.
