It's also worth noting that romanticizing the rule of law means adopting a wholly false perspective around what the law is, who it targets, who it privileges, and how it functions—or I suppose it could just be an embrace of that hierarchy, which is also... a problem.

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

My shameful habit lately is watching music reaction videos (something about listening "with" someone and hearing their thoughts scratches a particular parasocial itch) and I think how content creators respond to Bo Burnham is my litmus test for whether I'm going to care about their opinion.

"Trump of the Tropics" as a term for Bolsonaro feels simplistic and on its surface to be both too US-centric, and giving Trump too much credit. I remember looking into B's right wing politics back when I was studying polisci and recall him being the more conniving and clever of the two by far.

As for why I would correct somebody's name incorrectly used (even a dead person's), it feels like basic human dignity to refer to somebody correctly and correct yourself if you're mistaken. *shrug*
