Yeah Clip can do that automatically--this is in the Layer Properties pane when you import an image file or a scan. You can toggle the black and white off so that it renders only the black or white. Sorry, hope this is at least clear-ish!

back when my health was at like 70% instead of like 50% I was working slowly on a project of all 151 original pokemon from memory. i dug up the files and I got a lot further than I remembered. wish I had the energy to pick this back up rn!!
