That's not how I read his initial post but I see he clarified in a reply. Obviously its sort of undeniable that Obama's presidency sped up a brewing fascist movement, both because Obama was black and because he bungled the 2008 recovery.

The effects that you're describing presuppose that sufficient conditions for rightwingers to push the Overton window. What the person I replied to was arguing was that the US was unique and what I was saying was that it isn't.

I don't know that this undermines the point: if the US's shift was *just* reaction to having a black president, the UK rightwinger thinking there was a window to move right would turn out to be wrong, because the conditions that pushed the US population right did not exist in the UK.
