At least I am better at using those notes in my DnD setting I GM or play as characters.

By the time the second RWBY season came the answer was obvious, Harold’s tribe is an easy to scapegoat and paint as a devil for convenience.

Sometimes it was subtle but most of the times it was obvious and nail bashing, I am not good at hiding those themes under anime-esque adventure comedy

Then years later came the heavy grimdark stuff like, what is the culture of the main character like..? If the whole tribe can talk and command animals, can they do the same with mythical creatures? And what about werevolves and beastmen? And what about men? Do they count as bald apes?

The idea was to write a week of them adventuring together and adding extra vignettes that could add extra information about the characters like Harold being a street urchin who was adopted by the same man whom he tried to pickpocket.

I believe I wrote like 3 and a half days out of 7

But before that in 2005, I had a guy and his talking raven.
Harold T. Trend and Irving Trend (the bird claimed to be Harold’s ancestor spirit to get stuck in a birds body.

Who stumbled upon on a traveling merchant whose wagon got stuck in the mud… and dire wolves were close.

So, it made me think, what if those marks were not unique to certain families or clans for the sake of elitism but the whole tribe could do it?

That’s how the tribe of Nor’yen came to be that my boy belonged to.

Granted there was some inspiration from DnD, namely the Eberron setting.
I really liked the idea of Dragonmark a gifts from divine dragons to a family that improved the certain skills and gave spells that complemented that skill.
Namely, the mark of handling.

Back then idea was simple, inspired by things I watched in 80’s and 90’s…

A guy who walks the world (or two), can speak to animals and each new episode gets a new job.

No super-sayans, no zen vampires, no tranquil half-demons / werewolves. I hated that stuff back then and still do
