The main difference is that graft can specifically refer to dishonest financial gain from abusing a position of public trust, such as political corruption, while grift is a broader term for any dishonest scheme to swindle someone for money.

Here are US military lawyers stating clearly that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's "kill everybody" orders are either (1) war crimes or (2) murder.
