Thoughts on urbanism, government, and society.
California and other liberal states should pass a bill dictating that we'll go to full proportional representation once all other states pass the same law. We should have directly proportional representation and this could be a step. #redistricting #prop50

Every once in a while I dream of going on a guerilla bench placement operation here in my city, since the lack of benches and nice public things is a significant problem in my opinion. #urbansim

I think of all of the good, intelligent people in the US (and the world). There are a lot of us. The issue is that we're all dispersed. Imagine if all of us got together and built a society together. We could do incredible things. #nokings #shutdown #letsdobetter
A Coalition of Cities - Liloqi
I think of great cities. Rome, Florence, Paris, Cairo, Tokyo. Their individual atoms change over time, but the pattern — what we recognize as the city exists, evolving and growing throughout the centu...

More thoughts on collectively not paying federal taxes...
More thoughts on the "State Office of Federal Tax Fulfillment" - Liloqi
Previously I started playing with the idea of a “State Office of Federal Tax Fulfillment”. The basic idea is that I would pay my federal taxes, but they would be routed through a state office that hol...

I want a "California Office of Federal Tax Payment", where my federal taxes are routed through before the state forwards them on to the feds (instead of me directly paying the federal government)? That way we could collectively withhold our taxes together.

This is great. We need to be strengthening our state with the expertise that these people provide. We should be collecting researchers and scientists as well, especially from red states.

I find some of the resistance to using tools like ChatGPT interesting, and honestly a little sad. Just the idea of closing yourself off to something that has some pretty big upsides seems to be pretty self-defeating.

I'm always amazed at how much hate ChatGPT and other LLMs get. They're incredible tools, and have helped me be more creative in some interesting ways, and have helped my curious mind delve into some topics that I wouldn't normally have time to investigate.

Education needs to get better. I think a few small updates, and a rethinking of what we prioritize could make a large difference.
We Need to Do Better at Prioritizing Important Topics in Primary Education - Liloqi
I was helping with my son’s 6th-grade social studies homework yesterday, where, for this semester, they’re studying India’s history.  It’s mildly interesting, but in the back of my mind, I can’t help ...

One of the things that keeps me hopeful currently is just the potential in creating new and better systems to propel us forward (and likely finding ways to do so without the conservatives holding us back).

City Pride and Investment - Liloqi
I don’t think any of us are as proud of our cities as we should be. Of course we all probably have some level of pride, especially in our city’s status on the national stage, such as our economic stat...

I think Obamacare was obviously a good thing, but perhaps I'm getting a bit jaded these days (with my higher tax contributions to the country and less voting power), but maybe we should stop propping up red states. #shutdown #obamacare

A better representative democracy - Choose your representative, and each representative's vote power is tied to the amount of people they represent. Seems easy.

Portland should turn all of this into a marketing campaign -- I'm loving all of the great videos I'm seeing from such a beautiful city and its incredible location in the world. They should "flood the zone" with the reality of what Portland is actually like. #portland #WarRavagedPortland

It's disturbing how easy it is to manipulate reality for so many people (and to be fair, all of our realities are being manipulated, but to the level that is fed to those on the right is pretty incredible and surprisingly effective). #WarRavagedPortland #TrumpShutdown

Perhaps we should use policies more deliberately to attract talent and good people to the state (and perhaps to drive out those who are a net drain on progress).

I wonder what it would mean (and if it were possible), for a state to become so powerful, that it can no longer be constrained by the nation. Perhaps California should aim for that (whatever it is)
October 7, 2025 at 9:22 PM
If there's one thing I've learned under trump, it's that the laws and norms don't really matter. In that light, the State of California should create its own currency.
