I need an assistant to sometimes gently take my phone out of my hand and say, “Let’s think about that post for a while before you post it.” A poasting vizier, if you will. The power behind the throne.

Got some really good news at work right after I logged on, but never fear: work made up for it by being extra shitty for the rest of the day. Wouldn’t want to upset the natural order or anything.

When I was a librarian: some variant of “Oh, so you just get to read all day?” or “So you just shush people all day?”

Now it’s: “What does a data analyst actually do?”

Believe me, neither of us is prepared for me to try and answer that question honestly
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

At my Mormon missionary going-away party, a guy I had a crush on said I was the coolest person in my family.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

Had a follow-up visit for my recent surgery yesterday and it turns out I can’t take a bath for another three weeks. But my feet are cold *now*! I want to sit in a tub full of hot water until my toes prune up! Blargh

My therapist: People who catastrophize are often smart, because it takes intelligence to consistently come up with the most ludicrously unlikely things to worry about

Me: I will take that as a compliment

My lukewarm Star Wars take is that I have tried multiple times to get into Andor and it apparently is just not for me! (Also I hated Rogue One and didn’t really need more of that story.)

Or rather, that kind of *week*

Inspired by @weregeek.bsky.social , I made beef stew last night. I have lots of recipes but this time I went with the classic interpretation from Serious Eats. Turned out amazing!

A few weeks ago I was talking politics with a local, highly straight, bartender.

All the sudden he said: “Well, I think a big part of the problem is that so many of the people who would’ve been our progressive leaders died of AIDS & can’t help us now.”

And I’ve thought about that every day since.

Bogomil and Malo Mogge from Kelly Link’s The Book of Love. Kai from Martha Wells’s Witch King. The Ladies and the Beast from Jared Pechaček’s The West Passage. All the horrifying things in the forest in Premee Mohamed’s The Butcher of the Forest.
What's your favourite monster/creature from literature? I'm thinking Tuunbaq from Dan Simmon's The Terror, the triffids from Wyndham's Day of the Triffids, the demon from M.R. James' Casting The Runes, Grendel, Pennywise, etc.
