Nnumerosity adaptation affects BOTH early visual responses AND frontoparietal numerosity-tuned responses. These distinct neural effects across multiple brain regions align with the perceptual features of numerosity adaptation, revealing that this fundamental cognitive process begins much earlier.

What we discovered using 7T fMRI:
Early visual cortex shows monotonic responses that increase with numerosity
These responses become less pronounced after adapting to higher numerosities
The neural adaptation effect strengthens progressively along the visual hierarchy (V1-V3, hV4, LO1-LO2 & V3A/B)

The phenomenon we studied: Numerosity perception is influenced by adaptation: previously viewed quantities affect how we perceive current ones. While we know that frontoparietal areas are tuned to specific preferred numerosities, a key question remains: this also occur in early visual processing?
