Been ages since my last fanfic recommendation... again. But I have a good one today! A fairly old one, too, circa 2015:

The Wolf Queen Awakens

This is a Skyrim fic, in which Jarl Elisif, of all people, ends up being the Dragonborn of legend. Excellent story.
The Wolf Queen Awakens - Chapter 1 - ms_katonic - Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim [Archive of Our Own]

Huh. For once, they nailed it.

Huh, so am I hearing this right? Netflix acquired Warner Bros.? As in a company buyout?

Why does Adobe Media Encoder need to insist on being an absolute brat and assigning non-auto-delete audio export files to my *GODDAMN TINY C-DRIVE* no matter how many times I try to direct that stuff elsewhere? Doesn't happen when I export directly through Premiere...

Me, a few days ago: "I'll just do a light modlist for a 'vanilla plus' experience, no need to overhaul the game MASSIVELY..."

The result:

The "Diverse Character Creation" mod isn't as ambition as Character Creation Overhaul, but it also lets you choose which Novice-level spells from your chosen Magic schools to start with. Just don't ever pick Sparks if you plan to start at Helgen; the vanilla tutorial gives you that for free.

Ya know, the Abandoned Prison from the Live Another Life mod is an excellent buffer zone to wait out all of the mod-load startup messages.

Fun fact: my character's name, "Nurome Stormbinder," is on I chose partly because the "Stormbinder" name evokes the "Stormcrown," a.k.a Talos/Tiber Septim, the other most-famous Dragonborn. But Stormbinder is also an existing Altmer name, from Elder Scrolls 1, where... a Dunmer had it, weirdly.

I ended up installing the RaceMenu mod even though I don't intend to use any of the graphical overhaul things that make its seven billion sliders do things, for one reason: it gives you complete color control over everything, which I guess is a function Skyrim already had, but is just inaccessible.

Finally figured out which specific mod was causing Skyrim not to launch, and axed it. It wasn't a particularly important one, anyway.

Finally done editing the Sonic 2 movie commentary. Now I finally have time to try out my Skyrim modlist... which is already borked and stuck on loading the title screen, so I need to troubleshoot it. FML.

Okay. I've set up a modded (but not HEAVILY modded) list for Skyrim. It has overhauled survival stuff, a *polite* number of additional followers like Lucien and Inigo and Laylana (Feris, Katja, and Bjorn had to go, they're way too chatty and all clustered around Whiterun).

Nurome Stormbinder, a High Elf mage. A remixed take on a previous character I made. The only real defining character trait this one has from the start is that she's a survivor of a Thalmor refugee purge mentioned in the lore and, thus, absolutely detests them to a murderous degree.

...There is just a straight-up Cure Disease spell. Nice.

Uhhhhhhhhh.

I gotta say, when you approach the main quest with just a nonexistent sense of urgency and tackle dungeons and sidequests and such along the roads to each main quest objective, Oblivion is quite a pleasant experience.

Apparently you can hire one of the NPCs in Skingrad to work as a servant in Rosethrorn Hall once you have the Servant's Quarters upgrade. She considers this quite an upgrade, as if you ask her about herself afterward, she has a backstory that made me glad I gave her a change of employment.

Housing complete~

The tens-of-thousands-of-septims plus massive upgrade fees make the housing in Oblivion seem so intimidating early on, but then you get to the point where enemies drop ebony and glass equipment all the time and it's like money grows on trees in Cyrodiil.

Oooh, a Minotaur LORD, were you? Well, your face is just as doofy as the commonfolk.

...Why are there so many skeletons here.

...This random-ass cave near the Imperial City has a secret door inside it. The rock wall lifted up...

I'm getting close to max stats. Pretty soon I'll just be dumping a single point of Luck into my character per level.
December 2, 2025 at 6:06 AM
Welp. Now that I'm home from work, the Silent Hill 2 part I spent last night agonizing over is edited and exporting... it's tim to get back to Oblivion. Last time I bought a house in Skingrad. This time I fund the remaining decoration job.

Ugh, it's no good. I'm $75 down on software (because no one can make this kind of program without ripping people off, I guess) and if it's possible to recover the footage, it'll take longer than I have now. I have work, dammit.

I have to hope one of the other guys has the footage, still.
December 1, 2025 at 8:19 AM
H-ha HA, fuck my life, I accidentally deleted the footage for tomorrow's BSC part (and ONLY tomorrow's) and didn't realize I'd highlighted just one too many files until I'd already emptied the Recycle Bin. I need to run an undeletion scan, which is gonna take ages.
