today's movie: 1983's Mickey's Christmas Carol. this is not the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol, nor is it the best one for kids, but it is the shortest and most easily digestible for small children. it's still very charming and Scrooge McDuck is second only to Michael Caine as Scrooge

today's song: you thought we were done with my guy Vince Guaraldi? not a chance. Christmas Time Is Here is just lovely, it's a song that conjured up deep nostalgia for me even as a child, a little melancholy without making you feel completely sad, just a masterpiece of a song

you know you're an adult right?
December 8, 2025 at 6:40 PM
yeah my girls are obsessed with Wicked right now which is fine but I've seen the way all of the principle actresses have essentially turned into skeletons for this press tour and it's extremely alarming. Ariana Grande did not need to lose any weight, what is HAPPENING

I went to the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis for like five years in a row when I barely had money to eat because it was so reasonably priced

most of the humor in that movie doesn't really land with me but I think virtually every part that makes me laugh out loud is a part featuring him

Hollywood was going through some stuff for sure. still remember a movie going "get a load of THIS Mos Eisley Cantina reject! fuckin hideous, right? don't worry, when she takes off the glasses she's a smokeshow!"
December 8, 2025 at 4:53 PM
it's interesting because I don't remember it having this level of buzz and acclaim around it back in its day. it seems like making it an Official Christmas Thing™️ definitely came about within the last 10-15 years

yeah the Natalie storyline is WILD because wtf do you mean this woman is a fat disgusting pig? she's fucking gorgeous, what are we doing here
December 8, 2025 at 4:16 PM
and yeah "Keira Knightley was only 17!" okay but a) she was playing an adult and b) I don't think she or her character were particularly oversexualized here. I'm bothered way more by stuff like Euphoria where adult aged actresses are parading around naked while playing children, but that's just me
December 8, 2025 at 4:07 PM
right, and like the ways in which it is problematic I think can get kind of exaggerated by the haters. like as far as I can recall there are no instances of actual assault or lack of consent in that movie. some sexual harassment for sure but I don't think there's anything THAT out of pocket
December 8, 2025 at 4:05 PM
it's... fine. there's a LOT of problematic creepy stuff marketed as romance and the movie asks you to accept that Martine McCutcheon is a disgusting fat ugly pig, which, WHAT???, but it's fine background noise that you can give 33% attention to while you're wrapping gifts and nothing more or less
December 8, 2025 at 3:42 PM
okay but you do look like the badass heroine of some kind of action-horror movie set in the Arctic and that's kinda cool
