You don't necessarily have to run to be successful at play-action. The Lions forced themselves behind the sticks by constantly being ineffective running on 1st down, when play-action on early downs might have opened up the running game.

What he CAN do is track the ball better than anyone else the Lions have in the secondary. They miss that.

I think the biggest issue is that the Lions can't bully teams anymore (OL). The have to survive on big plays and not sustained drives. With every starter on defense (except Davenport & Anzalone) under contract next season, they really have to make sure the OL is powered up.
