We organised a Red Ribbon Remembrance walk today around sites connected with the history of HIV in Leicester today and left behind some DIY heritage plaques before lighting a red ribbon of light in Town Hall Square #WorldAIDSDay

I've just realised that it has been three years since I heard that Billy Quiet had died. Billy was part of the Lesbian Avengers' action in 2000 that painted a London bus - because Brian Souter from Stagecoach was campaigning against the repeal of Section 28.

As a teenager growing up in Woodford, learning of the existence of Sylvia's anti-aerial bombing monument, 10 minutes' walk away changed my perception of the place

Today, the eve of World AIDS Day, is the 25th anniversary of the death, from an AIDS-related illness, of Simon Nkoli. Simon was a black gay leader in the South African anti-apartheid struggle. He co-organised the first Pride march on the African continent. He was a fierce queen

I was at a voluntary sector conference today where the keynote spoke in the most paternalistic way about how charities step in to do the state's work and 'save' people, when the state won't. They didn't take questions, but if they had, mine would probably have paraphrased Gustav Landauer

I was supposed to be in Vienna last week for an academic workshop. I didn't go in the end for a variety of reasons (mostly spoons). But the wonderful Xin Pan appreciated my main motivation for visiting Vienna and sent me this and many similar photos of the Hundertwasser Haus
