Indeed. My 2024 piece basically argues B&G are right, roughly up to the point American democratic liberalism started undermining realist prudence. Forced to choose, Waltz remained a realist (but seemed, if you like, kinda humanistically torn about it).

This seems like about the right take. I keep thinking of the story of Eduard Limonov visiting the front line (which itself appears to be a bit hazy).
