thank you!!! I took two weekend classes to learn on a bigger floor loom and learned I really enjoyed it but then taught myself through books and YouTube tutorials all the rest! there's a lot of resources 🙂

here's how they come off the loom! they still need to be washed and dried where they'll shrink a bit and fluff up! cotton "blooms" in the heat and it makes them so absorbent and fluffy

you can of course start simpler with frame looms for things like tapestry and mug rugs too which tend to be much cheaper and teach you the basics, just not great for wearables or towels etc 🥰

i would recommend maybe trying a class first if you have a local option to see if you vibe with it, but otherwise check used places and try something like a rigid heddle first! it's surprisingly robust. i have a bigger floor loom too but have been loving this rigid heddle 🙂

I wouldn't classify weaving as a super cheap hobby, but if you're a facebook user, i found both of my looms at a big discount!

you can get really far with a rigid heddle loom (I'm using the Ashford knitter's loom in this post) and they have great tabletop options like the sampleit/cricket looms.

the good news is that this is messy still! I'm learning! I'm a novice and it's fun to be mid at something. highly recommend

how does weaving work you ask
well in the simplest terms, one position lifts up every other string and pushes down every other string. you pass a thread through, beat down, then lift the opposite. you do this enough times, bam. fabric.

there's a lot of other complex weaves you can do on looms too!
