🚌 The next "omnibus" (simplification package) on environmental legislations should be presented on December 3rd by the EU Commission.

Our article on this omnibus that looks like a pandora box: www.contexte.com/fr/article/e...

#Dejavu feeling: the Commission wants to postpone the implementation of the #deforestation regulation (again) for one more year, while it was supposed to start next January.

Official reason? « It’s the IT systems » 🤨

In the middle of both groups, we see wording proposals from Japan and South Africa on production. Eyes are also on China, that some would like to see more active to build bridges.
August 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
On the other side, members of the High Ambition Coalition (HAC) and their "friends" (around 100 countries) are still defending the idea of a future global target to reduce plastics production. As the like-minded do, this group is now also coordinating everyday.

🇺🇸 The United States, now negotiating under the Trump Administration, are also active to limit the scope of the treaty and often echo arguments from the like-minded countries. Reuters reported on how they're trying to influence other countries (www.reuters.com/sustainabili...)
August 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
Still on the scope, the like-minded are also against any article on health issues related to plastics pollution.
August 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
Those countries want to make sure the treaty does not cover raw materials, hydrocarbons, virgin polymers and etc - that they are producers of.
August 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
⛔ As in Busan, we see the so-called "like-minded" group of countries challenging the scope of the treaty and rejecting any text that would cover plastics production. To them, the "life cycle" starts at the design phase, therefore, there's no need for an article addressing production.

#PlasticsTreaty update, as day 3 is ongoing 🇺🇳

Hot take: the Mont Blanc looks closer than a deal.
August 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
The Commission states that Member states are not taking enough advantage of the current exemption foreseen in Reach for defence matters. So the targeted amendment aims to broaden the exemption to all types of chemicals.

"Let's get Appendix C right" : can politics get more niche than this? 😶‍🌫️

Amazed by the level of details in the minutes of meetings between cabinet members and stakeholders 🤯 Looks like this one could have been an email though.

🚌 3 hours go to before the vote in plenary to delay the application of CSRD & CS3D. ECR tabled amendments to delay up to 15 years while the "von der Leyen" majority is still negotiating to try to vote together. Group leaders meet at 10:30 today to try to find an issue. Watch this space!

Request on urgent procedure largely supported, now the vote on the "stop the clock" proposal, to postpone application of both CSRD and CS3D will take place on Thursday. 48 hours for groups to negotiate.
April 1, 2025 at 10:10 AM
S&D's @iratxegarper.bsky.social says the group will vote against the use of the emergency procedure today. "The reason is we haven't managed to find an agreement among pro-european majority [...] on the entire omnibus package".

#Omnibus 🚌 Trade unions and NGOs are protesting against the Commission’s plan to water down its due diligence law, denouncing a « corporate agenda ».

« They call it simplifying, cutting red tape, but it’s getting rid of protection for workers »

🧵🖼️ Some people make threads about art pieces. I'll make one about lobbying in the Brussels metro. It's some sort of art, isn't it?

So here are the 2025 lobbying posters. As I'll probably miss some, feel free to add more in the list.

I'll start with Plastics Europe, live at Schuman station
