Lashunta Word of the Week Hivaemavyre (/hi.va:e.ma.vi:re/; feminine): sage-princess; hedonist; sybarite Formation: ~Hivaeme~ (fem): princess; duchess + ~Avyre~: wise. Created as an allusion to ~Shaeavyre~ - Sage-Queen Like its better-known counterpart ~Shaeavyre~ - Sage-Queen, ~Hivaemavyre~ is a historical reference to a royal class that dominated Castrovel’s classical golden age - ~Kamatha Shaeavyrea~ - the Age of the Sage-Queens. Yet, whereas the Sage-Queens are revered as the matrons of philosophy, science and art to which their descendents aspire, the Sage-Princesses symbolize the age’s darker side. Consisting of either the queen’s direct descendents or related subsidiary royal houses, the Sage-Princesses enjoyed a level of luxury far beyond their contemporary commoners, and which their current descendents cannot even imagine. In many cases, where a specific princess-house was formally cut out of the royal line of succession, its ruling member had little choice but to occupy herself with idle diversions. Although some emulated their rulers in fostering art, science, buildings, social activities, and psychic magic, in some cases they created the most outrageous excess. Some even fostered the creation of permanent psychic mindscapes in which they could arrange their preferred reality to meet their whims. Unfortunately, the Sage-Princesses most enduring legacy is a trope in Lashunta erotic literature, as an antagonist ruler of a harem of enthralled Damaya and Korasha selected for her pleasures, which might take place either in the real world or in a mindscape as described above. Lady Vaeol mentions this trope in today Chapter 16, which she describes as: “the shameful lusttale books Remaue so beloves,” and in the referenced phrase: ~Shiade o’hivaemavyre-yei~ - “She f***** like a sage-princess,” meaningly wantonly and to excess.

I was reading up on Mobats (~Hoyosu~ in Lashunta). PePathfinderwiki.com, Castrovel is one of the planets beyond Golarion on which they dwell. The more I’ve thought about it, the more I agree that here they would thrive. While on Golarion Mobats prefer nocturnal forests or subterranean environments of the Darklands, on Castrovel almost the whole surface terrain invites them, millions of square miles of jungle dominated by giant megadendron trees, under whose lowest breaches stretched the ~Zellavya~ - the Darkfloor, light never seeps. As night falls, just a couple hundred feet higher, the arboreal biosphere waits among the tree-limbs, where a stealthy, flying predator can find all kinds of possibilities. At 250 pounds (~110kg) and with a 5-yard wingspan, Mobats are a large, stealthy flying predator that can pose a serious threat. While they may not be able to carry off a Lashunta Korasha, they may be able to pick up a Damaya, and certainly a child. Also, while not tool-users or speech-capable, they are highly intelligent, which implies the ability to plan and cooperate, maybe like flying dolphins. I foresee Mobats posing not only direct threats to Lashunta settlements, but also competition for resources, in terms of hunting range and fruit-gathering. Furthermore, Lashunta farming practices involving cultivation of both fruits and meat-animals might just present targets too tempting to resist. So far, my vision for the Lashunta has been of one seeking harmony and even symbiosis with their environment. Even though cooperation would be possible with Mobats, I don’t feel like this commonly occurs. Instead, the Mobats trip the Lashunta’s genocidal trigger. Unable to match Mobats’ aerial mobility, Lashunta defend their settlements with nets and stakes to restrict ingress against their foes’ wide wingspan...

However, it helps fill in details for a Lashunta vision in my head. In this case, I asked a question last week of how ape-like Lashunta Korasha should like. While I got a wide variety of answers, I realized that I was looking for something that straddled the line between beast and man. For the record, I think how savage or noble a Korasha looks depends on their own character, and how they present themselves. A Korasha living like an outlaw out in the jungle wilderness, letting his locks, beard, and backhair go to seed is a frightening thing. A Korasha living in a city, educated, trained in etiquette, and with some applied body-grooming is a solid, upholding icon of civilization, confidently striding the halls of a Matron's palace or the Psychic Esotericum. It all depends on what we wish the character to be. In seeking inspiration this time, I returned to the source. For many who see this, this artist needs no introduction, because over a seventy-year career, his works became embedded in our DNA. He had a gift for evoking the primitive within his figures and imbuing them with a dynamic feeling. Frank Frazetta. We shall not see his like again.
