Please remember to label your sexy photos and videos as “adult content” when you upload them.

🍆 The people who want to see them will still be able to do so.

🚫 The people who don’t want to see won’t have to.
If you don't label your content, you are effectively forcing people to see content they have chosen not to see in their feed. Why should I label my media? Consent is important. You do not have automatic consent to show your dick to everyone on Bluesky. Many people use Bluesky's built in filters to hide adult content from their feeds entirely, or behind a warning which they can tap to expand and see the content if they wish. • Some people don't want to see adult content at all. • Many people don't want adult content visible when they are at work or on the bus. • Some may be minors. Whatever the reason, they have specifically chosen not to see adult content on Bluesky. The filters are enabled by default, you have to go into your settings and disable them if you want to see adult content. These filters only work if photos or videos are labelled appropriately when you upload them. What if I don't label my media? If you don't label your media, the photos or videos show up uncensored for people who would otherwise not see such content. It doesn't matter if they don't follow you; your post may show up in a different feed such as the Discover tab, or someone they do follow may repost it. People who have opted not to see adult content have usually done so for a reason. That reason doesn't matter, what matters is that by not labelling your content, you have not respected that choice. Some people report users who do not label adult content properly. The Bluesky moderation team review those reports and add labels to your content if necessary, but they shouldn't have to do that. You could also end up on a moderation list, meaning your account will be automatically blocked by anyone who subscribes to that list. How do I label my media? When you add a photo or video to a post, a "Labels" icon appears above the keyboard. • Labels Tap that, and on the next screen select the appropriate option: Adult Content • Suggestive - this is not necessarily nudity but maybe considered NSFW, eg prominent bulges visible through clothing. • Nudity - exactly as it sounds, photos or videos featuring naked bodies. • Adult - photos or videos of sexual activity. Other • Graphic Media - not really sex-related, it refers to things like gory photos, crime scenes, blood, anything people may find unpleasant to look at. This may however apply to some sexual content too.

Don’t take it personally, just understand that your inaction is affecting other people and realise that you can do better with almost zero effort. ☺️

I’ve seen some pushback about this issue from people saying they can post what they like.

I agree! Nobody is saying don’t post adult content; plenty of people want to see it. Post whatever you like.

Just label it properly so people can filter it out if they don’t want to see it.

We like to use this platform in public too. The auto-labeler is not reliable and is missing a lot of them.

If you see a sexy post that was not labelled (or was labelled by the Bluesky moderation team instead of by the author) please consider not liking or sharing it.

If people stop getting engagement on unlabelled posts, it might encourage them to use labels in future.
