Yes, LinkedIn’s self-presentation and promotion first and foremost. Constructive debate is near verboten and authentic connection is stilted because of both of these.

My twitter folks either remained and mostly disengaged or moved to LinkedIn or idk. I’m not a fan of the “I’m excited to announce…” culture on LinkedIn. So, now flit between academic groups somewhat related to my discipline on here.

One purpose is thick description—to deeply understand one or a few experiences embedded in particular contexts.

I’m also a quant but I have deep respect for my colleagues who toil away with qual work. It seems so challenging and uncertain. 😀

This isn’t fair to service members. The office of legal counsel is saying the actions are legal. Asking individual service members to 100% go to prison and destroy their lives is not the right approach.

The only ”solution” being considered is even more tech. Zoom, smartphones, social media, and now LLMs…I genuinely feel sad for the Gen Z and Gen A who will never know what it’s like to read books deeply, have and develop your own ideas, or be alone in your own thoughts without distraction

I get this occasionally but have gotten in the habit of making sure I cite at least one salient paper from a journal I’m submitting to. It’s a good sanity check for me—why would I submit somewhere I’m not even citing?

It enrages me when I hear of young women volunteering to serve their country and then being raped by their comrades or even superiors.
