I draw aliens, dinosaurs, and speculative evolution 🦖 / A follow is not an endorsement ❌ / Beep boop, computers are our friends 💻
I've never seen a Stegosaurus reconstruction that really resonated with me. John Conway's is my favorite. For some reason it is so hard to make this dinosaur look like a real animal.

During a recent trip south of the equator I was captivated by all the gnarly palms and cycads, which became the basis for this design along with grasshoppers/locusts.

Yes please! I'm especially interested in which muscles to emphasize, i.e., which muscles stand out the most beneath the skin in a living animal, for example the line of the brachiocephalic muscle down the neck.

I would definitely buy them! Very useful reference.

What do we have to do to get you to post more sketches?

Tacking on extra limbs to make a creature look more "alien" is the creature design pitfall that leads to sausages.

Instead, be deliberate. What does this limb do? How does it attach to the body? Is it load-bearing? Why did it evolve?

After my initial sketch of a creature I do a "detail pass" where I redraw each body part more rigorously using references. The more you use and study references, the more you'll develop an instinct for rendering natural forms.

Lotad are slow but capable swimmers. Their diet consists of soft water weeds and the occasional unwary bug Pokémon captured by their surprisingly long tongues.

On balmy summer evenings in the Hoenn region the air is filled with choruses of Lotad serenading each other with sonorous croaks.
