I haven't seen any talk about it, but the Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp is up and running again and it's been discovered that innocent people are being subjected to brutal torture by guards in it

The prupose of the Constitution is not to be a philosphical project for the most pretentious within our society to toy with. It is meant to serve as the bedrock for American society itself, a beacon of rights and liberties whose light knows no distance and spares no one.
this is a fundamental principle of self-governance, in the end. the constitution is not in heaven. the constitution is not hidden away in some vault somewhere and tended to by nine priests in black robes. the constitution is in all of us, or it is nowhere.
It's largely lost today because we've allowed constitutional law to become the exclusive preserve of lawyers, but the original idea of written constitutionalism was partly one of public education, publicity, & (proto-)democracy—people should be able to read & come to know the law which binds them

should be bigger news that ICE raided a taco shop in Tucson and when a sitting member of Congress, on her way to lunch, stepped into a protest to ask ICE what they were doing they pepper sprayed her and tear gassed everyone on the block

looking forward to either a 6-3 decision that trump as God Emperor of the United States can change the constitution by fiat or a 5-4 decision that 14th amendment means what it says with a dissent from thomas that actually the constitution recognizes donald j. trump as sovereign

contemplating my entire life because even if I do get into a master's these schools (excpet for maybe UArizona) are going to fucking brutalize my bank account, like I would basically need to have a full ride to be able to attend UC Berkeley or UCLA just given how fucking expensive the housing is

I hope those of you with accepting family never take it for granted. My entire life and future career path would be immensely easier if my dad wasn't so transphobic

There are schools whose names I will seldom know, and little remember, that will make this country better in major and substantive ways that will go largely unnoticed.

The Normal Schools are a great example.
As are HBCUs and HSIs and TCUs and a great many categories entire.

This is the thing that always inspiried me about the US public higher-ed system. That a country could be so wealthy that it can have schools where people build rocket ships under sports stadiums and somehow these are considered "unprestigious" to elitist snobs
I always think of Tony Judt on this (though I'd hold the condescension and double down on the public university systems in the heartland)

I really like the politics of Chi Osse (socialist YIMBYism, pro transit, parks, schools...), I like the boldness, but oh MAN that is a hard race he signed himself up for and he *cant* rely on any endorsements here, Dems who endorse him essentially risk being expelled from the party

going to reiterate a long time take of mine which is that grades and essays are far worse for disadvantaged groups than the SAT. A student in poorly funded school is generally going to have a worse essay and transcript than someone with a private tutor, meanwhile there are SAT guides on youtube
grades are an extremely messy signal and you do in fact need some kind of universal baseline.
