This year, get them English Muffins™️

Non-binary PhD Candidate History @ Western University. My research looks at London tube shelter newspapers in the Blitz. I spent too much time playing Baldur's Gate 3 in 2024...and 2025.
Day 1 Clementine Cheer:
Recall your youth. It is 1988. Your t-ball team has just won the city championship and you've gathered round a keg of watered down "McDonalds orange drink." The drink of champions.

Imagine that, but hot. And slightly bitter. 6/10
Off to a rocky start!

That would be Detective Inspector Waffles. (She's pint sized with a black nose.) Professor Pancakes is significantly larger with a pink nose. And also prone to melting in front of the fireplace. They're sisters and share half a brain between the two of them.

Someone in Lawson Hall must have watched Twin Peaks for the first time.

I love this article and tried to get my students to read it. (Guess how successful that was?)

Education, as it turns out, is much like life: one goddamn problem after another.

Today I'll be thinking about William Dawson, CAMC & Harry G. Dickson Jr, RCAF who died in the First & Second World Wars. Both from London, Ontario, and the same age (22/20) as many of the students that I teach today. It's a privilege to share William & Harry's stories with them every year 🗃️ #cdnhist

The fun thing about doing a Canadian history comp field is that you never know when Granatstein is going to leap out from behind a metaphorical bush when you least expect him.

(For the record I think The Canadian war on queers is essential reading now more than ever 🤔) 🗃️ #cdnhist

High school history day was a success - I swear there were actual engaged students in this room a mere five minutes later. 🗃️ #cdnhist

Happy Halloween from 1988? 1992, 1999, and 2003.

I want to say the 1999 look was for Halloween but that was everyday wear for me when I was an angsty 17 year old.

No idea what the last one was. Inebriated university student who liked emo music? (I miss that Jimmy Eat World shirt!)

More thoughts no one asked for: the 2024 rule re-haul completely nerfs the twinned spell metamagic option (goodbye, dual casted haste) but the transmute spell option is ridiculously good.

Also meet Pfeffernusse. Every sorcerer needs a jaunty hat.

I am watching this game out of spite because of a bizarre fantasy nhl pool/bet that I made with my PhD office mate (a die hard Leafs fan) in which I inexplicably chose the Kraken solely "on vibes" to perform better than the Leafs for the entire season.

Seven years of almost (or actually) coming in last, half-way point stroopwafel selfies, & reducing my already glacial speeds. Another Phoenix 25k trail race* in the books.

This medal will join its brethren in a cardboard box in my closet.

*Per tradition, I mostly walked after 7-8km. Whoops.

Happy "10th Anniversary Edition of Carly Rae Jepsen's masterpiece E.mo.tion with unreleased bonus tracks" day to all who celebrate.

Trying to determine if this "trench art vase" I bought for $10 off fb marketplace is real, but I don't know enough about shells. The base seems off?

Seems more like post war tourist claptrap. Either way, it's a fun knick knack to have. #cdnhist 🗃️

Keeping this & a bag of chips for right after the race next week.

Me, last October after limping across a finish line: "I'm going to register for this 25k trail race again and really train over the next 12 months"

Me, this afternoon, one week prior to the 25k race, forgetting that I registered last year and having not run in 8 months: "Well, shit."

I'm only forty pages in and this is already knocking my socks off. I've read so little about queer spaces in mid 20th century Canada that were not Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver and this is a welcome addition. 🗃️

Tori Amos tour/album announcement time
✅ info leaked beforehand
✅ Endless debate about whether the title is a joke or not.
✅ Fake tracklist gags
✅ Typos or issues with website
✅ Launch graphics that will have nothing to do with the project
✅ Head tilting explanation of album

We're so back, baby!

So kind of @dropout.tv President @vicmmic.bsky.social to grace Toronto with their presence. (Micro celebrity Kurt Maloney was ok, I guess.)
The real comedy was the ~ 7 hour~ round trip drive from London that usually takes 4.5 hours. Hats off to the Gardiner Expressway.
