Just curious Tom, what percentage of your reporting over your career has had to do with "new icons?" It has to be significant, right? 😉

I believe that someone had him murdered more than I believe that Trump had him murdered, tbh. Lots of people (rich men) with more to lose from Epstein talking than just Trump with more capacity to pull it off. Not that Trump is innocent or against the idea, but probably pretty far back in line.

I asked before on here, if a bill were introduced denouncing fascism, would it even pass?

Would a resolution denouncing fascism even pass?

Not an extension, a free agent signing

:) Spent all last year reading your “this team does everything wrong” posts, you’re like a good luck charm!

Worst case we could start with Williamson/JP/Cole and then bring up Colt at whatever position needs the most help (hopefully we’ll do better than that though)

Difference here is that the MAGA base has been calling for release of the Epstein files for years, expecting that "elites" (read: Dems) would be exposed. If Trump is implicated instead of or along with Ds, the base will have a hard time excusing him for something they've been calling for heads over.

Never understood why A-Rod was up for this award in the first place. Didn't make sense for him to be MVP of the league when Griffey was MVP of the team! It wasn't just modesty, Junior was clearly better.

Continued shutdown meant loss of/damage to SNAP, air traffic chaos, etc. Was beginning to inflict real pain, regardless of blame. Nothing Dems did/will do would ever sway R lack of support for ACA. Msg should be "we made our point, let's keep fighting," instead it's nothing but backstabbing.
November 11, 2025 at 1:44 AM
I am truly trying to understand the pervasive anti Dem backlash. I don't think there's any way Rs were ever going to cave on supporting ACA (and openly defying Trump). I know I'm in the minority but I'm much more concerned with winning back the Houses than I am looking for Dem scapegoats.
November 11, 2025 at 12:45 AM
I just wish I saw 1% of the anger pointed at Dems instead pointed at the Republicans, who, you know, control both houses of Congress and were never going to cross Trump and vote for ACA extensions, no matter how long the government was shut down.
November 10, 2025 at 2:04 PM
When did Thune “promise a vote?” He said he wouldn’t consider it at all as long as the shutdown continued, but never promised anything (until now)
November 10, 2025 at 4:56 AM
Yeah not the way it works. You can't have snap elections to replace a minority party, only for the controlling party. I'm all for calling snap elections on Republicans, but pretty much all of Bluesky seems to forget who has control of this government.
November 10, 2025 at 4:25 AM
I just don't get it, I guess. The problem here is that the Rs control the House and Senate, and their policies are to blame. All D focus should be on running strong candidates in these now more vulnerable Texas and elsewhere districts. Anything else is wasted energy!
November 10, 2025 at 4:20 AM
The idea that Rs are going to roll over if we hold out longer seems, well, silly. There are a lot of wins here, SNAP etc.
If instead of self-owned messaging that Ds failed again, we focus on "we fought and will fight for you" and keep the pressure on, midterms are where the real battle lies.

True but much bigger connection with LA<>Japan than say Toronto or NY, it's all about maximizing the endorsement money (and winning championships). Agree though that in general, deferred money != regular yearly salary etc.
November 6, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Agreed, but Ohtani is a unique situation - his endorsement money (esp in Japan, but here too) basically dwarfs any salary he could receive. His $2M/yr salary is just a placeholder so that he can reap the endorsements. Very few other players, even the other Japanese players, have that same advantage.

If this were true I'd be firing off some strongly worded emails to my lower back and my knees!

Nope
November 2, 2025 at 3:43 AM
Yeah let’s have this game go until spring training!
November 2, 2025 at 3:41 AM
See? It's the perfect way to describe how the game ended! Baseball, the game that just keeps on giving!
