"I'm one of the normal ones in _____ fandom" has become a red flag for me depending on the context as I feel these people are trying to appeal to a conservative group so they can be accepted by them when that group would never care for anyone that doesn't fit their lifestyle. Just my two cents.

Redesigns aren’t inherently mean spirited and yet I have such a hard time navigating when I see them because so many are done out of malice or spite. It’s really unfortunate. It feels like it needs a “I’m not a hater” disclaimer every time for fans to safely engage. That’s so frustrating.
