his work covered much more than Curious (NTs Warhorse for example), but i can't help thinking of Curious.
Astroboy, Polperro, Swindon 5s, Sleepwalking... all charming, inventive, beautiful pieces, and full of heart.
RIP

the composer Adrian Sutton has died.
i was lucky to have met Adrian once or twice while with Curious Incident, and once over a drink he talked me through the musical ideas of the play, how he mostly thought of it as a way to express what Christopher (the hero of the story)...

i'll never stop watching his work, savouring that dual weight and zest of his talent, and admiring the warmth of his humility
he leaves us a world of great art and true enjoyment. if you don't know much of it, do seek it out

he was a favourite of my dad's, and easily became one of mine too, and together we watched and shared many nights of his films. Hackman remained a part of both a private family, as well a public dramatic imagination my whole life

upsetting, awful news about the death of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa, and - in some grotesque twist - their dog (?!)
i've not been as shocked and saddened by the loss of an actor for some time

love some of these sketches
"Queen Mab, a tiny fairy who visits people in their dreams, is described a mischievous figure who rides a chariot made of an empty hazelnut, drawn by atom-sized creatures."

a lot of secondary literature on Shakespeare:
"...the King's dead body, and the seeming death of masculinity, represents a crisis that darkens the play, as the invisible background image of the rotting human corpse...denotes a physical blackening of the white body..."
