I’ve only seen the UK version and yes, chaotic is a good description; cringe, uncomfortable might be good adjectives too.
There is something of cult status for the show and definitely a love it or hate it response.

No formal schooling here in the UK anymore.
Luckily every family has a bigoted and racist aunt/uncle whose job it is to teach their nieces/nephews how the world works, what places are called, and if the food that comes from those places is nice to eat or just ‘foreign muck’.

It isn’t just some of the stupid English people that confuse Europe with the EU; there are plenty stupid Welsh, Scottish, and N.Irish that get confused too.
