Oh to be a fly– or another kind of bug – on the wall of the emergency Starmer, Zelensky, Merz and Macron meeting in London tomorrow. European leaders have been obsequious about Trump’s zigzags in public; but much more honest in private if last week’s leak to Der Spiegel can be believed. 1/

And there are millions who think like myself.
The Trump administration and Elon Musk are currently trying to destroy our lives.

This, from the prime minister of Poland. Why? Because Trump is letting Russia conquer Ukraine and Poland may be next.

Americans must realize that if Ukraine (a democracy) falls, the balance of world power will tip -- and the U.S. will be weaker -- as Russia is emboldened to invade more countries.

Elon Musk keeps flirting with chaos and calling it “free speech”. Europe won’t take democracy lessons from a billionaire who toys with extremism to stay relevant. And yes — Poland’s Foreign Minister just delivered the comeback of the year.

Wow.
This says *everything* about the German defence debate, really.

For YEARS experts have fretted over public opinion on defence spending and how it would be impossible to justify spending over 1 or 2%. Turns out 35% (!!!!) of Germans think we’re already spending OVER 5 % of GDP. WTH.

It displays ignorance as well because Turkey is largely "non-european" (whatever this means) and a NATO member. The US is also non-european - literally.

Let's stop thinking there could be peace with Russia. These so-called negotiations, these mechanical references to a “just and lasting peace” are meaningless ramblings.
There will come a day when war will become inevitable. By remaining in denial and not acting now, Europe is taking senseless risks.

Based on reports, the US thinks that if business deals with Russia are good enough, then they will become "the commercial guarantors of peace".

This is an illusion. Russia had huge deals with Europe for oil and gas before 2022. Remember Nordstream?

And did that stop them?

people died for birthright citizenship. i get that it’s more fun to be a pundit when your team has the white house and you get to brag to friends about visiting the oval office; but what i’m wondering is if maybe that’s actually not a good reason to throw away something we fought a civil war to win?
