I forgot about ‘The Fourth Hand,’ a book I really liked but didn’t seem to make the classic Irving Pantheon. Again, lost of innocence, disfigurement, expatriation, lots of heavy lifting in his books.

Right on! My first novel of his was ‘The World According to Garp.’ I read the ‘Hotel New Hampshire’ about 40 years ago and remember the characters. One of my favorite was ‘A Widow for One Year.’ I haven’t read all of his more recent books. A common theme is social alienation and devastating tragedy.
