this — again like with the not one but TWO law profs at LSU last year who dared speak against the president, the governor was tweeting out demands for their resignations within hours. hard to conclude anything other than some students are basically plants/spies for the gov.

this is what i don't understand about the louisiana governor's obvious plot to weaken LSU...doesn't he realize that besides new orleans, LSU is the only thing holding louisiana together? weakening LSU only weakens the state, just as weakening the US higher ed system just weakens the US. to what end?

and i'm not even trans! just a commie pinko radical leftist in a very red state. my viewpoint is definitely not the one MAGAs are trying to make sure gets included in academia!

i spend so much time saying "i'm not trying to indoctrinate anyone" before explaining what SCIENCE says about a topic. and "of course you can disagree with me, but i can back up all of my opinions with science, and i expect you to as well." 😑 exhausting.

btw, i'm not one to throw stones -- i dressed as her for halloween that year. 🫣 but i didn't know then what i didn't know. and you know what they say, when you know better, you can do better. i hope she's found peace at this point.

the problem for me is my (educated, leftist, academic) friends are happily pretending most of the things aren't happening. if i try to break through that, i risk losing their friendship, or at least invitations to events, bc who wants to invite That Guy who reminds us about the real world? :(

honestly don't know. highly-educated, successful, left-leaning academic friends of mine have just completely checked out of following the news. idk if it's too depressing/overwhelming or what, but i'm baffled.

we do, however, still enjoy the occasional free youtube classic bits, and can’t help but quote him sometimes. we’ve also taken to calling our daughter jzanthypus bc she leaves a trail of detritus in her wake everywhere she goes.

i paid money to see him live TWICE bc i thought he was so brilliant. however, when all this came out, i admitted to myself that there was always like 15% of his show that gave me the ick. so the real winner here is my gut, since it knew he was a creep before i did. i’ll never ignore it again.

like my 6th grader’s math homework: has to be fully written out in the workbook, THEN she has to transfer the answers to an online form, and THEN she has to upload photos of the pages where she just worked out the answers. who says 11 yr olds should have the patience/focus for this?

agreed. my 6th grader’s math homework has to be done (show your work!) in the workbook, THEN she has to transfer her answers to an online form, and THEN she has to upload photos of the pages where she just worked out the answers. where is it written that 11 yr olds should have the patience for this?

even anti-tech parents can't make up for kids being on chromebooks all day and then being required to do their homework online.😔
November 29, 2025 at 2:16 AM
it's the 1:1 tech that schools have been told to promote. kindergartners on ipads. first graders using chromebooks. and it just gets worse from there. we have them doing all sorts of things that have never been vetted as developmentally possible/desirable.

i think they're overwhelmed by information -- youtube, tiktok, IG, whatever -- and just can't take in any more. i see it in my students and my own 12th grade son. 😔

if the goal of an ABC store were the same as the goal of the imaginary govt-run grocery store -- to make its wares affordable -- then it seems to be working in NH, at least, which has the highest per-capita alcohol consumption rate in the country. 😆
