AI is a climate issue. AI is a climate crisis.
A few important points here

- Generative AI supercharged data centre growth: lobbyist and substacker lines pretending like this is just streaming are false

- Even when you consider much of the projected growth is speculative, the *likely* projects are still MASSIVE

No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

I have a lot of thoughts about being a short woman who travels about the city at night and perceptions of safety. I’ll share them at some point, but now I need to go to sleep.

Remember—Billionaire philanthropy is PR

$6.25B is a lot of money. It’s also only 4.1% of the $152B Michael Dell has hoarded. If Dell paid the 37% tax rate on the wealthy he'd pay $56.25B—and still have nearly $100B, more than he'd ever need

Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with this vision. We lost about $2,000 in donations because we took a strong stand for an affordable and walkable city this year. If you agree it was the right thing to do, please donate if you can — it will be matched today! seattlegreenways.org/donate
I still get questions/concerns about why should transportation advocates get involved in land use planning: "Isn't advocating for bike lanes and safe pedestrian streets hard enough without adding in another controversial issue?"

But the two are fundamentally, critically, inseparable.
Tell @council.seattle.gov let's make Seattle walkable and affordable by:
1) Legalizing corner stores
2) Expanding neighborhood centers
3) Adding flexibility in car parking regulations
4) Encouraging stacked flats
5) Supporting social housing

UBI would take pressure off job transitions, increase savings, increase donations and allow space between paid jobs.

After my daughter was born I needed more time to heal and make the transition into motherhood. UBI is a family friendly policy.
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

It is time to abolish ICE.

It is time for Washington state leaders to step up and figure out how to make our communities safe from these goons.
Indigenous actor Elaine Miles of "Northern Exposure" was detained by ICE at a Redmond bus stop. When she showed them her Tribal ID, they told her it was fake.
Native American actress gave ICE agents her tribal ID. They called it 'fake,' she says

WA has set Vehicle Miles Travelled reduction goals. To achieve that two things need to happen:
1. Transit/ safe ped access must have priority
2. Driving, parking, cost of gas, insurance all must be a little bit worse (harder, slower, more expensive)

Mode shift can’t be all carrot and no stick.
Why are we assuming that we want to maintain car volumes? To meet our climate, public health and road safety goals as a city, there is no reason any on or off ramp in #Seattle should require multiple lanes. #Rainier
