The problem is, I'm going to bookmark this (even though it's not sprout season here in the southern hemisphere) and forget about it in six months time.
So what I'm saying is, can someone remind me to make this when May rolls around?
Everyone can (and should) read @readlux.bsky.social online. I've yet to encounter a dull article. But I'm also here to inform you all that if you pay for a subscription you get to see some of the most fantastic magazine layouts that you can find anywhere.

Today is #WorldAIDSDay

With Lenacapavir or LEN, a new drug WHO recommends to protect people at risk of #HIV instead of taking daily pills, people can now get injections every 6 months.

At the time where funding for HIV is limited, this new drug could mean fewer new infections & more lives saved.

A little surprising to learn just how much Meta makes from scams/fraudulent advertising (as much as $16bn in 2024!) but this article sure explains A LOT about the company's behaviour.
Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

LLMs destroy context. You used to be able to tell a crank website from a good source partly by its style.

But now we have a tool that puts careful research, incoherent garbage, and intentional shitposting through a kind of grammatical instagram filter, presenting them all with the same credibility
The bigger change is presentation, historically, these emails were visually chaotic: sudden colour changes, ALL CAPS, screenshots pasted at random. Classic signs of disordered thinking. Now they’re neat, structured, and grammatically consistent. The delusion hasn't changed, but the formatting has.

This rules, this is the way to name a kid. Stop all the bullshit with baby name gurus and just pick the two movies you went to last, pick two characters in those movies. Boom you’ve got a kid named Zora Galactus, you were never gonna pick a name that good Hollywood did it for you.

Really excellent work by @garbageday.email covering the latest Epstein emails, the apparent extent of his influence over global politics, and how the Clinton blowjob memes have served to "flood the zone with shit".

This is such nonsense for so many reason, but among them: Sally Rooney's latest novel is centred on two brothers! They are PoV characters, and Rooney details their inner lives with the same skill and brilliance as any of her women. There's also male PoV characters in her two previous novels!
and to lead with this...

There is a character in the 1929 novel The Well of Loneliness who is exactly like this, and was apparently based on Noël Coward.

Not the same because he's doing it out of spite, but the only Tom Hanks role my dad will acknowledge voluntarily is Woody from Toy Story.
I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”

This @groundup.org.za editorial does a fine job of articulating just how outrageous the gag order against @opensecrets.org.za is. We don't know who gagged them, on what grounds, in which court, or by which judge's ruling. groundup.org.za/article/anon...
