Just another Edmontonian
Looking at the Edmonton report on safe mobility. People online often complain about new residents making are streets more dangerous but that’s not true.

It’s the city continuing to make cars the most convenient form of transportation.

A view I wouldn’t get by car #yegbike

The joys of having a leading pedestrian interval with right on red.

The parks in that area are oversized and underused… but redevelopment there would be even less popular.

Not sure what the site is being used for.

That area absolutely could handle extra traffic even without the LRT.

The road is built for like 80 km/h but is a 30 km/h park zone. It’s never even 10% full.

Safe streets aren’t controversial.

And we will continue building these flashing yellow lights pretending they protect pedestrians.

Based on this map from r/edmonton Knack won every neighbourhood with a protected on street bike lane. #yegbike

A few more thoughts:

No raised crossing at 76 ave and 96 st is odd when they put them almost everywhere else. That area gets a lot of pedestrians.

Also why only one speed table and a flashing light to cross in the ravine?

The path I used
November 18, 2025 at 3:54 PM
They do plan to widen a road though
November 18, 2025 at 5:19 AM
The street lab planned in the location of the fatality is pretty underwhelming. A few speed bumps and a stop sign.

No neighbourhood wide plan

I tried to summarize all your points and added some of my own ward specific questions.

I’ll be attending the traffic safety town hall tonight. Is there anything I should ask Knack #yegbike?

Not the best example because it’s the rare non-SUV. You could not park like this at a driveway.
November 16, 2025 at 5:52 PM
It’s an easy common sense change that doesn’t require any infrastructure.

But what if we tried asking drivers not to kill people 🤔
November 10, 2025 at 7:10 PM
CBC posted a video talking about a building losing its on street parking due to bike lanes. Somehow they failed to mention the building’s TWO visitor parking lots. One of which you can even see in the video. #yegbike

Not bad at all (other than the people short cutting through Glenora)
November 7, 2025 at 11:40 PM
The UCP acts like because they’ve widened our highways their owed the right to govern the cities.

Same issue in Edmonton with yellowhead and bike lanes.

All of this money, time and anti-urban politicking for a bit of congestion relief for drivers. Congestion will revert back anyway.

Why does Calgary have so many pedestrian collisions?

“Please ride safer because I won’t look before I turn on a red light”

Infill is both undesirable and so many people will move in you can’t park

Series of tragic events… that happen often and are well known issues.
