Carney seems oblivious to the potential political ramifications of what he is doing. Who he is alienating.
In politics you are only as good as your word.
Did PM Carney mislead Elizabeth May to get her budget support?
In a minority government you can't afford to be losing cabinet ministers and alienating potential allies.

The Trudeau govt decided against going big into LNG facilties based largely on reputable studies showing a shaky LNG market future in Asia especially. The supposed business wise Carney govt has reversed course, seems all in.

Long term risk to fossil fuels he's aware of, and so is using the power of government to rebuild a market for them. He's shredding climate policies, throwing support behind oil and gas, and the main reason the climate community feels betrayed is because they fundamentally misread who he is.

Did the climate world misread Carney?
Many in the climate movement saw a fellow traveller in Mark Carney — the man who could preach climate action in the language of finance — but what if they were wrong from the very start?

@liberalca.bsky.social What are we doing?
Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

One gets the sense that the Carney team thinks it will pick up many many Conservative votes and seats, because of those Poilievre unpopularity figures. So it is fine to lose NDP supporters who voted Carney Liberal in April.
New Abacus Data #cdnpoli poll: Carney’s personal numbers improve to a net +14. Poilievre sits at -3.

The leadership contrast remains clear but the race is still tight.
