Truth over opinion. Climate politics and economy (failing alternative to science & policy). Hope can only help when we realize that there are viable alternatives to our political/economic dystopia.

There actually is a local minimum in October around that region compared to the warmth nearby. However, this cold blob is more visible in long-term trend maps that smooth out the interannual variability like that is present in a noisy one-month view (e.g., just looking at October 2025 alone).

Important: Do not count on the private sector to fund adaptation. They have no incentive to do it well and governments DO HAVE THE MONEY, they just need to stop doing other useless stuff like building weapons.

#Pesticide verbruik ( #gewasbescherming) in Nederland is dalende.

"We believe that confronting climate tipping points and the risks they pose openly is not a sign of 'pessimism' or 'alarmism' but a sign of realism and responsibility."

The good thing about the conclusion that “cooperation fails because of bad #communication used to be that nobody is guilty and so nothing is done. That used to work for me as well, until I realized that a #team can be responsible too. Not individually. We need to learn new #competences together.

I am in favor if a #GrowthMindset. But it gives me an itch as well. Because this term is used as an incantation formula. I.e. is there anyone opposed to this?

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

How much carbon budget do we have left if we want to stay below 1.5˚C?

Just 2 more years at current rates. It is essentially impossible to avoid global temperature rise exceeding 1.5˚C.

Unregulated capitalism isn't good for the poor OR the wealthy. If we had a system to set ethical boundaries for ambitious brains, we could set them competing to solve the most pressing problems for the greatest good without their dumb selfish egos messing everything up.. but that'll be a big shift

and the original argument here was on competition, not capitalism

So you admit that inherently, relying on competition is a bad way to run a society and it’s not an evolutionary advantage .

Leaving selfish egos room to compete to CHEAT the system is a HUGE problem, yeah. It's supposed to be a government's job to stop that from happening AND to redistribute resources in equitable ways. People just didn't VOTE for that because all science and altruism folks forgot to get good at SALES

There absolutely is something wrong with humans thinking they can change the climate however they want, regardless of how it affects other people, animals, plants, and survival for the future

Maybe, we don't know for sure. We're doing all kinds of things (incl. leaving nuclear waste) that could tip life over. But in any case my point is that it's so often just about us and our future, with disregard for the other, all innocent, life forms whose existence and future we're wrecking.

Even if 95% of all species die, there will be new vibrant ecosystems in 5-30 million years. With new types of animals and plants. This is how it has always been after every mass extinction. I find this fact very comforting.
