The exit of USAID creates an opportunity for China to gain more influence in Africa, but Chinese Aid is no simple substitute.

China is more focused on trade and infrastructure while USAID supported a lot of health and humanitarian interventions.

America's cheque is also bigger.

It’s been a terrible day weather-wise, but my day has been brightened by a chance encounter with Jeremy Corbyn.

We talked briefly about the work he’s done to support the pursuit of justice by Mau Mau veterans and also the release of political prisoners in post-independence Kenya. I thanked him.
